Location Determination with X‑Guard Beacons on Room and Floor Level
With X‑Guard Beacons, indoor locations can be determined with high accuracy. This technology is essential for improving safety and emergency response inside buildings.
Measuring / Fingerprinting for Location Determination per Room or Zone
To ensure accurate indoor positioning, each room or zone is carefully measured and fingerprinted. Rooms are categorized into three groups:
-
Small: up to 100 m²
-
Medium: up to 350 m²
-
Large: up to 700 m²
The time required for fingerprinting depends on the room size:
-
Small rooms: 5–10 minutes
-
Medium rooms: 10–15 minutes
-
Large rooms: 15–25 minutes
During this process, our staff walk through each room with a device in hand and repeat the process with the device worn on a belt or in a pocket. This ensures optimal data collection and accurate positioning.
For best results, we recommend fingerprinting each room individually. Restroom groups with vestibules are often treated as a single zone. Connecting corridors are usually excluded, as the adjacent room is typically displayed as the closest location.
If less precision is required, multiple rooms may be combined into a single zone, provided the total area does not exceed 100 m². In that case, the zone name is transmitted as the alarm location. A combination of zones and individual rooms is also possible, depending on your needs.

Mounting, Installation and Integration
Our specialists ensure that the ordered beacons are installed at the desired locations. Depending on the situation and preference, beacons are mounted using screws, attached with the supplied Velcro, or integrated for mains‑powered models.
With our integrated solution for supplying, placing and fingerprinting beacons per room or zone, we provide reliable and accurate location determination tailored to your environment.

Combination of Beacons and GPS Location
Optimal location determination indoors and outdoors
In addition to fingerprinted spaces using X‑Guard Beacons, GPS location can also be used, especially when the user is outside a building. GPS provides accurate positioning outdoors but is often less reliable indoors due to walls, ceilings and steel structures.
Within buildings, we advise against using GPS in combination with fingerprinted rooms.
The fingerprinting method is designed for highly accurate indoor positioning and takes priority over GPS. This means that if someone is just outside a fingerprinted room, the location may still be assigned to that room based on the last known accurate indoor position.
Important to note:
To transmit an accurate GPS location during an alarm, the user must be outside the Bluetooth range of the beacons for a short period. Only then will the system fully switch to GPS positioning.
Lighthouse Principle in Combination Systems
When a combination of GPS and beacons is deliberately chosen, fingerprinted rooms are not used. Instead, another technique is applied: the lighthouse principle. Beacons transmit their unique ID, and based on signal strength (how well the beacon signal is received), it is determined whether the app user is close enough to a beacon. This provides an alternative where full fingerprinting is not desirable or feasible.
This approach supports our mission:
Everyone, Everywhere, Secured.
Whether indoors or outdoors, X‑Guard ensures that your location is determined as accurately as possible during an alarm.
